We are in Zambia!!!

5/15/14 @ 11:59am African Time

We are on our way to Livingstone, Zambia. We are all on the plane! This plane ride is going to last about 2 hours. Once we get to Livingstone we have about a 2 hour bus ride to our final destination. Then it will be official!! Yay! Everything has really gone without a hitch! No missed/delayed/cancelled flights on the way here, fingers crossed about the way back. There are 13 of us that are traveling together, 9 SLP graduate students and 4 SLP supervisors. I believe that a few more people will be showing up a little bit later. I guess that's all for now. The only place we have seen is Jo-Burg and our hotel was literally a stones throw away from the airport, so we didn't see much of it. I am expecting to see a bunch more of the countryside today on our way to The Haven. For now I will let the dramamine take over and take a short nap :)

We have arrived!! We got into Livingstone, Zambia today around 2. Then we went through customs which was an ordeal, as expected. But we made it!! We then took a 1.5 hour bus ride to Namwianga, Zambia. Had a flat tire along the way but everything worked out. I still can't believe it. We got here in time to sit for a minute and then eat dinner. I will be posting a picture of dinner, we had taco soup! Yum Yum! I am sharing a room with Caitlyn Smith and we each have our own twin sized bed! We also had orientation after dinner with the person in charge of the kids that we will be serving, Megan.

Just an FYI the pictures that I will be posting in the next week will only be pictures of our group or scenery. We are not supposed to take pictures of the children for the first week. This encourages bonding with the children and really helps us develop a relationship with them instead of through a camera. However, tomorrow I will take some pictures of where we are staying. I completely forgot to do that today. We are staying in the Mann house which is a house that has 4 different bedrooms. 2 other graduate students are in the house with us, as well as a supervisor. The rest of the grad students are in the Binky Estes house, that is just a stones throw away from our house. We will be visiting the orphanage tomorrow, and seeing all the babies for the first time! I am so excited!! More to come tomorrow! Until now, time for some sleep. Jet lag is a beast!
