My Wednesday...

Today was our last whole day at the Haven! It also happened to be Auntie Appreciation Day. AAD, as I like to refer to it. It was quite an experience. The aunties do soo much and so to help Megan share her appreciation they got a few hours off today and the speech pathies took over The Haven.  I was stationed in Haven 3 in the afternoon from 1-3 while the Aunties went and played volleyball at Eric's Place. It was quite the experience. There were 7 of us in charge of 20ish children aging from 6 months to 3 years. I have pictures to prove it. :) haha! It was bittersweet, my last session with Joelo, as well as my last afternoon with Aggie. Although I will get to see them again and tell them goodbye before we leave! Tomorrow we are only going for the morning and then leaving for livingstone. Because of some missed flights due to weather we will be picking Dr. Tullos up a day late and probably wont get back to the Haven on Friday to do therapy. This day was a day of lasts on many accounts, it was my last afternoon with Aggie and it was my last therapy session with Joelo. Here are some pictures to commemorate our last whole day here at the Haven. Bittersweet. Tomorrow will be a half day, we have already packed and are ready to go to see the Lunar Rainbow! Holler!

Petra with her Ray Bans on. She stylin'.

Haven 1 time with Ezekiel. Got to rock the baby to sleep :)

Yep there he is! ;) Zzzzzz...

Although this was a day of "lasts" this was also a day of firsts. Since the aunties were gone, this little boy named Jon actually came to me and sat on my lap. Without crying. Truly this is a momentus occasion! He usually follows his favorite auntie, Elizabeth, all around the haven holding onto her skirt and not letting go for the world. You usually have to work hard just to get him to wave :)

Baby Kent was not having us today. Bless him. His story is one that I would love to share, but as I have said before... not my story to share. However I can say that it is such a blessing that he is here at the Haven!

Here is the part of the group of kiddos and all of us trying to corral them around. It was quite entertaining to say the least. And understandingly overwhelming at times. :)

This is one of our supervisors, Kara, and all of her babies :) They were all over the place!

Another angle of the baby madness!

This is a better picture of Jon. Rocking the Christmas shirt of course!

This is Petra, and her beautiful smile! You really have to work for it but to see those teeth is so rewarding! She was one of the cuties that we got to watch when we did Haven 3 today!

After such a great day today we had an even awesomer caring and sharing time. We were kind of freaked out about the whole situation because all of our supervisors were hush hush about what we were going to talk about and what we were going to be doing. It ended up being so much fun. I don't know how much of this is top secret but the night was definitely a success and such a rewarding experience being with all of the people that I have gotten to know so much better in the past 5 weeks.

Well that is all for now! :) Peace and blessings!

  1. I love all the pictures! Can't believe your time at the Haven is coming to an end. I know what you mean about not being able to share someone's story. I have seen several kids at my offsite that I wish the story I know about them was not true. Some have very difficult backgrounds. Whether you are in africa or the US, there are some heartbreaking things. But praise the Lord for places like the Haven! What will you miss most about the Haven? I know I am going to miss loving on my kids every day. It is so exciting when we even just get a smile or joint interaction out of them! It is so rewarding. Can't wait to hear about the rest of the trip! Praying for y'all!

  2. In commenting on this, I am also kind of commenting on the last three :) First, I loved the answers you listed for the various questions you have gotten from your parents. It gives more cohesion to a stateside perspective which is helpful! As always, your pictures are fabulous and beautiful, and I know you will cherish them forever. I pray that as you say your goodbyes that you remember that even through the difficulty, you have had such an important role in guiding these children on in their development that will impact them for a lifetime. Enjoy your last memories and enjoy all the fun you will be having on the way home! Love you!
